Warpaint - new video for....errrr....Warpaint

The band have a track of the same name on their debut album, and here is the lovely video for it. I totally rate Warpaint, and have been privileged to see them go from a fairly nervous performance to a couple of hundred people at CAMP basement to a sold out Kentish Town Forum in the space of about ten months.

Thomas Tantrum, Wrexham, 21 June 2011

Another band I've seen in the last couple of weeks was Thomas Tantrum, who I reviewed HERE for the Music Fix

The lighting was awful - I had to wait for Megan to go to the back of the stage away from the nasty red cellophane filters, so I'm fairly pleased with what came out of that. They are a darned decent band - nothing world shatteringly innovative but done very well and with charm. They came around after they got off stage to thank us for coming to see them, which was nice

Ballboy - I Hate Scotland

I was driving tonight and due to the wonders of an iPod starting at the beginning of the alphabet, by the time I got home I'd been reminded of the brilliance of Ballboy in general and this wonderful song in particular. Never seen him perform live, I really must rectify that

The August September, Wrexham, 21 June 2011

August September were opening for Thomas Tantrum at Wrexham and I have to say I was a little bit knocked out by just how good they were. Accomplished and sure of themselves with ability to match. They are only up the road from Chester and seem to have some good gigs coming up - festivals and one at Camden Barfly. As I was sitting up  and taking notice of them, simultaneously so was my good friend and music advisor Niel Cuzen all the way from Surrey. He sent me a note to look out for them at the very moment I was processing these photos - spooky!

Ladytron, London, 8th June 2011

This was a simply amazing gig - electronic as it should and could be. Two voices, one set of drums and four keyboards. Spine-tingling. I'm only sorry I saw them in London and not the home gig at St George's Hall in Liverpool

No press pass, so we have to make do with happy snaps from the G10

Bjork, Manchester, 30 June 2011

I really do think of Bjork as possibly the only one of the 'pop music generation' who will genuinely stand up alongside classical greats when history looks back in 200 years time.

Here's my review of the Biophilia premiere over at God Is In The TV http://godisinthetvzine.co.uk/index.php/2011/07/02/bjork-mosi-manchester-30th-june-2011/   It was a big event, I was in the press pen chatting with someone from Radio 5 Live, with a good number of people around who I'm sure were well known personalities if only I watched TV.

This is the live photo that we were all supplied with - it nicely captures Bjork's Kabuki like face make-up

The Kills - Future Starts Slow

Yowzah - I've seen this band twice recently. This brand new video goes some way to explain just how essential they are on stage, how elemental. Like a match being dropped in petrol....
